Vitiligo\uff1aClinical features and Diagnosis<\/span><\/h3>\n<\/div><\/div>

The typical patch<\/strong>: Well-demarcated, chalky or milky white, round to oval, with a normal surface texture \u2014 not scaly, not raised, not itchy. Some patients report mild itch before a new patch appears. Patches enlarge outward over time.<\/span><\/p>\n

Common sites<\/strong>: Around the eyes and mouth; the backs of the hands, fingers and wrists; elbows and knees; ankles and feet; armpits, groin and genitals; and areas of repeated friction.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>

Associated findings<\/span><\/h4>\n<\/div><\/div>

\tLeukotrichia (white hairs within a patch) <\/strong> - indicates the follicular reservoir is depleted. This predicts poorer repigmentation, and is important to identify before starting treatment so expectations are set correctly.<\/span>
Halo naevi<\/strong> - a mole with a white ring around it, more common in vitiligo.<\/span>
